I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God
that brings salvation to everyone who believes...

The Good News: What we believe

God

We believe in the one eternal living God who is fully alive in the dynamic interdependent
community of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. We believe God created, sustains
and is passionate about all life for His glory. God is holy, loving, sovereign and
redemptive. God alone is worthy of our unending praise and worship.

Humanity

We believe that all people are created with dignity and value in the image of God to live in vital relationship with God and one another.
Tragically, all have turned from God, causing sin to destroy our lives, relationships and creation.
Sin leaves us alienated from God, grasping for meaning, yearning for hope, and suffocating under distortions of reality.
Left to ourselves, we are without God, and so, without hope.

Jesus Christ

We are convinced of the good news that God’s love does not leave us to ourselves! Jesus Christ is the incarnate Word of God and Savior for humanity.
Jesus lived a life of perfect obedience. He is God’s jubilee. Jesus of Nazareth took upon himself the sins of all people and died our death on the cross, paying the penalty of sin. While sealed in the tomb, Jesus was raised to life through the power of God, once and for all conquering the power of death. Through Christ we are freed from our sin, death, and judgment; through Christ we are freed for His righteousness, life, relationships, joy, worship, and mission . We affirm the risen Christ has been exalted to the right hand of God and eagerly await the coming day when every knee will bow in heaven, on earth and under the earth
and every tongue will confess Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit who is continually at work transforming and empowering people, the Church, and the world for the glory of God. The Holy Spirit lovingly pursues us through the conviction of sin, the gift of saving faith in Jesus and the on-going sanctifying work that conforms people into Jesus’ likeness.
The Spirit of God unites us in the body of Christ, equips us with spiritual gifts and empowers the entire church for ministry in the world.

God's People- the church

We believe the Church to be the dynamic interdependent worshipping community of Jesus’ disciples from every race, class, language, culture and nationality. We believe God calls out from the world a people for himself, and sending them back into the world to be his servants and his witnesses. The church exists for the transforming,  life-giving redemptive mission of God in our lives, community and world. Through His Spirit-empowered Church, Jesus’ ministry continues to throw open the liberating gates of the kingdom which embodies, demonstrates and proclaims His reign. The Church, in joyous obedience to her Lord,
seeks to heal the broken hearted, give good news to the poor, set at liberty the oppressed, and to make disciples in every nation.

The Mission of St. James Presbyterian

We believe St. James Presbyterian Church exists for its vital role to make and grow disciples by igniting a contagious passion
for Jesus Christ  and to become God’s instruments of transformation here and around the world.

God is transforming The Church

We believe every child, youth and adult are called to the faith-filled adventure of life in intimate communion with God, authentic relationships with
one another and dynamic witness in the world. We believe all are to be continually transformed by a deep, personal relationship with the living God
and respond by living our lives as an outpouring of God’s everlasting love. We believe worship, discipleship and ministry happen in the
context of healthy relationships lived out through the lenses of grace and truth.

God is transforming lives

We believe the Bible is God-breathed and the Holy Spirit forms us into greater Christ-likeness as the word dwells richly in us through study and prayer.
We believe that as people made in the image of the Creator, we are called to dynamic innovation to fulfill God’s mission in and through us.
We believe God is calling individuals and our church to serve, give and live sacrificially to fulfill God’s calling and mission through our lives.

God is transforming the world

We believe the lives of our neighbors, our immediate community and the world should be transformed because of God’s Spirit working through us. We are committed to follow Christ into the great unfolding mystery of God’s work in the world. We believe St. James is called to undertake this mission even at the risk of losing its life, trusting in God alone as the author and giver of life, sharing the gospel, and doing those deeds in the world that point beyond ourselves to the new reality in Christ.
We believe that God is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine, according to His power at work within us.
To him be glory in the church, and in Christ Jesus, through all generations, now and forever. Amen.
